Partner and Head of the Trade Mark and Brand Protection group

John joined FFW in April 1999 where he is a partner and the head of the Trade Mark and Brand Protection Group. He brought a substantial practice from another London based practice where he founded the Trade Marks Group which would subsequently merge into Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP’s.

John worked in-house at The Ritz Hotel Limited where he ran the trade mark programme for the marks RITZ and HARRODS. This work was the basis for a successful licensing programme. He was responsible for litigation in 90 countries involving the RITZ mark worldwide. He manages international brand protection programmes for a large number of global brands. John is admitted to the California Bar, has practiced in England for twenty years and in Paris for several years before that. John is also admitted to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.

He is a member of the International Trademark Association, APRAM, AIPPI - French and British Groups, AIPLA, ABA and IBA. John is co-editor of Trade Marks, Trade Names and Unfair Competition: World Law and Practice and is on the Editorial Board of European Intellectual Property Review.

John speaks fluent French and conversational Spanish and German.
